What is a BER CERT?
A Building Energy Rating is an energy rating for a house. It has a scale of A-G, A-rated homes are the most energy efficient and G the least efficient. The BER CERT  shows the typical energy consumption per m2 per year (kWh/m2/yr) and the associated Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions rate (kgCO2/m2/yr).

Who Should have a BER Cert?
From the 1st of January 2009, a BER certificate is compulsory for all homes and commercial properties being sold or rented. A BER certificate has been compulsory for almost all new homes since 2008. By law, a person who offers a dwelling for sale or let must provide a BER cert to prospective purchasers/tenants of a property.

Who can carry out a BER Energy Rating?
BERs will be carried out by specially trained BER assessors, registered by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI).  A list of BER Assessors is available on the SEI website.
